There’s so many reasons Fiji is the perfect destination to holiday with your children: the huge variety of family-oriented water activities on offer every day; the amazing underwater environment waiting to be to explored; the beautiful palm-fringed tropical beaches, lush forests and shimmering waterfalls; and the easy accessibility of it all.
If this sounds like just what your family needs, read on to discover what family-friendly activities you can enjoy in Fiji.
1. Kids clubs
Fiji is famous for having some of the best kids clubs in the world. They feature incredible facilities, surroundings and staff. Most run for the whole day and include fun indoor and outdoor activities and provide the perfect way to give you parents a break.
2. Ziplining and abseiling
Kids can soar through the tree top canopies and the incredible rainforest, seeing first-hand Fiji’s incredible flora and fauna. Zipline Nadi offers 16 giant ziplines high above the canyon and there’s also the opportunity to abseil 100 meters down into an amazing cave, part of Fiji’s Tau Caves. Zipline Pacific Harbour, located 25 minutes away from the Diversity of the Fijian Rainforests, also features unique zipline adventures.
3. Kula Wild Adventure Park
Kula Wild Adventure Park is an environmental showplace that features a variety of wildlife, including reptiles and birds. It also provides an Environmental Education program with the aim of preserving Fiji’s flora and fauna. Kids can take a picture with endangered Fijian iguanas, baby snakes and even hand-feed sea turtles.
4. Mud pools
Taking a dip in the mud pools is a fantastic way to enjoy Fiji’s natural benefits. There are two mud pools to choose from, Sabeto and Tifajek, and they are both located near Lautoka in Nadi.
5. Local schools and communities
Visiting local schools and communities can be a rewarding experience and a good way to give back to Fiji’s younger generations. Local schools have a tiny annual budget, and even though teachers work hard to give children the best possible education, help is greatly appreciated and goes a long way. Items you can donate include exercise books and typical classroom materials.
6. Water activities
Fiji offers a variety of exciting water sports activities, either motorised or non-motorised. Typically you’ll be able to snorkel, dive, stand-up paddle board, windsurf, go in a banana boat ride, kayak, sail in a catamaran, ride a jet ski or parasail.
7. Sand dunes
Fiji is home to impressive sand dunes. They’re located near the mouth of the Sigatoka River, reaching around 5 km long and up to 1 km wide. Rather than the expected golden brown colour of sand dunes, these sand dunes are a unique gray. They’re accessible via bus, travelling between Nadi and Sigatoka. Once there you’re able to do your own self-walking tours through designated trails.
8. The Garden of the Sleeping Giant
Located at the foothills of the Nausori Highlands (about 10 minutes drive from Nadi), The Garden of the Sleeping Giant has incredible landscaped gardens featuring Fiji’s native plants and orchids. The garden is a popular attraction as you can walk amongst lily ponds, native forests and more.
9. River safari
The Sigatoka River in Fiji is the perfect place if you’re keen for a safari. You can enjoy a half-day eco/cultural adventure aboard a custom-built safari jet boat through the The Sigatoka River Safari. You’ll visit authentic Fijian villages where you’ll learn about their history, customs and legends of the area.
10. Beach day
There are extraordinary beaches all over the world, but Fijian beaches are likely to stun you even more. Some of the most famous are Yasawa Island (a luxurious private beach), Liku Beach (in the popular Mamanuca Islands) and Monuriki Island (famous for being the filming location of Tom Hanks’ “Cast Away”). Take your pick and enjoy a relaxing day in the sun.
